Black Clay Coffee Mug (Barro Negro) Handmade in Oaxaca, Mexico
These artisan made mugs are made of natural hand gathered clay from Oaxaca, Mexico.
Master potter Juan Ruíz says "Clay is like a person. When it's born it cries, it slowly matures and ages." It is normal for clay items to 'sweat' a little at the beginning. If this happens, you can cure them by submerging in water for a few hours.
Wash your piece with a sponge before using them for the first time and after every use. Do not use the dishwasher. Allow to dry completely before storing. Excess humidity could cause mold to form. If this happens, just wash them carefully and dry them under the sun.
With use, color, texture and shine will change- a magical process that we find fascinating. Avoid sharp utensils that can damage the pieces. Greasy food or liquids may stain or modify the color.
Cups measure approximately 3.75-4 inches in diameter and are approximately 2.75 inches tall. They hold around 8-10 ounces of liquid.
